   IC INBOX: THE STORYTELLER

The Storyteller's temple on the central island of Ensō is, unsurprisingly, where your local deity can most often be found. Those seeking to strike up a conversation or pursue the Storyteller for answers are not guaranteed an immediate answer, but they can certainly try. If one waits for long enough after posing a question, their expectation for a response from the deity in question may very well prompt them to happen along...eventually.

She's still standing, at least, heaving painful breaths through a network of roots and inflexible stems until there's no more bloodied clumps of plant matter coating her windpipe, for the moment. Trembling, feeling lightheaded, she reaches out a hand to accept the god's support at her side. But the instant the long flaring blooms on her palm so much as touch the tiger's fur she flinches back as if she's been burned. Too bad it's not one of those times when her hands are completely numb and she doesn't feel every disturbance of this gruesome bouquet like spikes driven into her veins.

She wipes her mouth high on her sleeve instead and moves on. It's not like she's here for her own comfort, anyway.

"We're not rejecting you, we still--" Something in there sounded familiar but she can't focus, can't dig it out of all those scraps of information swirling in her head about the plague, about Umui, about what caused it-- "What do you mean, you permitted what?"

"This -- all of this."

They move around her in circles, their tail lashing and wrapped around the tome; white petals shower from its pages. Though there is no danger in their walls, they pace with the agitated gait of a parent tiger protecting a cub.

"They chose their fate. It should not be yours. You are meant to choose your own stories. You are meant to give them freely. This -- it is a perversion. Umui was a desolate graveyard. It should have remained thus. I did not know."
