IC INBOX: THE STORYTELLER

The Storyteller's temple on the central island of Ensō is, unsurprisingly, where your local deity can most often be found. Those seeking to strike up a conversation or pursue the Storyteller for answers are not guaranteed an immediate answer, but they can certainly try. If one waits for long enough after posing a question, their expectation for a response from the deity in question may very well prompt them to happen along...eventually.

You cannot alter life and death as they exist in this realm or any other. My work is merely to maintain as much of an equilibrium as possible. And even that is...difficult. But it is what I am determined to ensure.
Many of you have already suffered too much in this place for me to allow anything else.

So many people lost and nothing he could do and now the one person he might be able to help he had no real ability to help either.]
That's all I want... to stop him from suffering anymore. But I don't know what to do. How to fix any of it.
[He holds a hand up hopefully. Tory will you let him hold you for just a moment?] I'm sorry, I didn't mean to take any of this out on you, I know you're trying your best. I'm just... out of ideas.

[The gecko gives themself a shake. More petals flurry to the ground like flakes of snow, and they scuttle into his hand.]
I know there are some who seek a cure to that plague. But that is his choice to make, and his steps to take. You cannot solve his problems for him.

Dunno if you noticed but I'm not good at not doing things. [The more distressed he is about something the more productive he is. He pushes and pushes and eventually something has to give. He'll either find a way to master the problem or-
Well... there's never been an or... Not until here, not until Noct told him that they'd all go on without him.]
The stubborn bastard would never accept a cure from you, anyway. [A pause, he tilts his head a little, brow raised questioningly as he strokes down their back again. Scritches? Would that help with the petal dispersal?]
Maybe... if we could let him have a test run of sorts, I dunno. Like... trial period everything will revert in 72 hours. Kinda thing. I don't fucking know.

[They could mention that he came sniffing around their Temple to ask some very pointed questions about ridding oneself of that sort of effect...]
[...but that is not their story to tell.]
I'm not sure if it is obvious, at the moment. But...I am not at my strongest. [The flowers draping the Temple's corners, the petals pricking from their back, even the spots of color that drift over the ancient brown slab of their tome, prone on the cobbled floor.]
I am not sure when I next will be.

[He scritches lightly at the petals on their back, casting a worried look down at the little lizard.]
Is there anything we can do to help?
[Look if he can't help Ardyn he has to be able to help someone. It's killing him feeling like he can't make any kind of lasting impact here. Which is... not entirely logical, given all the things he has done.]

[Some forty-odd stories poured into their soul was enough to allow them to manifest this much, at least, as well as grant the request of...a staggering amount of clothes. Truly.]
no subject
[A worried look.]
Does it help? I mean I know it's not as good when it's not new and fresh but do the random little things I can tell you about home help at all?

I am a reflection of stories. Of your stories. I yield what I am given.

I... right, I wanna get the lighthouse finished up before things get too crazy so I'm going to be working on that. But I'll come up here, maybe bring Iggy, some night this week and we can hang out, tell you some of the shit we got up to with Noct or the Guards.
And talk to you about what you wanna do with this place, okay? 'Cause I'm fixing you up whether you like it or not, buddy.
We'll... just keep... thinking on the Ardyn problem for now I guess.

[A soft whisper of a sigh. It somehow manages to sound expansive, despite the fact that it is heaved from a tiny gecko's lungs.]
Perhaps he is a problem, but he is, first, a person. No matter what he may believe otherwise.
I cannot do anything for him that he does not choose, and ask for, himself.
no subject
[Is that? Fond exasperation?
Maybe.]
He wants to ask just not when he's like this. And I mean... I can't blame him for being wary of gods. Bahamut was a royal fuck up. I mean you think Bliss was a problem? I'll let Iggy tell you that story some day. It's a fuckin doozy.
no subject
[And truthfully, fighting that losing battle is low on their list of priorities as a result.]
no subject
It's a shame though, blaming you for something gods from a whole different world did. 's not fair on you, buddy.
no subject
[They would rather be blamed for the things that are their fault (of which there are now plenty to choose from), but...you win some, and you lose some.]
no subject
I'm not letting this go but... I also... need to get tiles made if I'm going to have things ready for the others to help me get the roof laid.
Think on how you wanna change things up here, okay?
no subject
[That's the most they can do, at the moment.]
But...thank you.
no subject
[Have another little scritch before he reluctantly gets back to his feet. Gotta head up to the lighthouse.]
